Compatibility

Compatibility is used when scanning in an item to see if the character is allowed to use the barcode scanned in.

Black Barcode Battler

Mechanics

For the Black Barcode Battler, the same digit that determines if a character is a warrior or wizard also governs the character's compatibility with other barcodes. Naturally only wizards can use MP items, and only warriors can use Weapons and Protectors, but even within this only certain characters can use some items. News is an exception, as it can be used by any character, but only in C1 mode, and C0 mode also allows characters to be scanned instead of a powerup, allowing two characters to fight together.

Character compatibility

While in C0 mode any character can use another warrior or wizard in place of an item, in the other modes only powerups can normally be used. However a secret was included in the game whereby certain heroes can use another character instead.

Warriors with Compatibility 3 and Wizards with Compatibility 8 can use Method 1 heroes or enemies which share both the same Compatibility and Digit 7, as long as the barcode is not the identical (i.e. you cannot rescan the same card to double its stats). This means that warriors can only use another warrior and wizards another wizard.

As this makes the hero extremely powerful, only one combination was permissible with the Black Barcode Battler card set: Cool Candy could scan in and use Pandoral during battles in C1 and C2 modes.
